The island of Oléron in Charente-Maritime
With its 15 km width and 35 km length, the island of Oléron in Charente-Maritime is the largest French island on the Atlantic coast. Influenced by the Gulf Stream, its microclimate, with as many hours of sunshine as the Côte d’Azur, is very mild, as shown by the presence of mimosas.
Let yourself be charmed by its magnificent fine sandy beaches, its villages with low houses, its picturesque little roads adorned with hollyhocks, its vast forests and its small ports. On foot, by bike, on horseback or by taking the P’tit Train, the island of Oleron can be discovered in every way. Oleron is also a land rich in natural flavours: the Marennes-Oleron oyster, mussels, fish and seafood, sea salt, local wines, Pineau des Charentes…
